About Acid Dyes

More efficient than basic dyes, Acid Dyes are widely used for dyeing wool, silk and other protein fibers, and nylon. These dyes have sulphonic acid group and one of the major component is salt of sodium sulphonate. Presence of sodium salts increases increase solubility in water, and give the dye molecules a negative charge. In an acidic solution, the -NH2 functionalities of the fibers are protonated to give a positive charge: -NH3+. This charge interacts with the negative dye charge, allowing the formation of ionic interactions. The offered range of Acid Dyes are generally are anionic in nature and are applied from a strongly acidic to neutral pH bath.
